District 3 Frontiersmen celebrate Veterans Day in the Czech Republic

General Patton – heard of him? Bet you didn’t know that his 3rd Army not only overran Germany during the last months of World War II, but that the 2nd Infantry Division “Indian’s Head” was tasked by the general to push far east into the heart of what is today the Czech Republic. On 8 May 1945, elements of the Indian’s Head Division entered Plzen and Rokycany, Czech and met with their Red Army cohorts from the Soviet Union. For well over a decade, District III of the Department of Europe Veterans of Foreign Wars has commemorated this event with a Veterans Day celebration in the town of Rokycany. Veterans Day Ceremonies across Europe

In a tradition going back almost a century, VFW posts across America and Europe will host
ceremonies intended to commemorate the sacrifices of Service Members. Although many
consider it a solemn occasion, it is actually intended to be a recognition, not of fallen comrades,
but rather those veterans who served commendably without having to make the “ultimate
sacrifice”. VFW posts choose to commemorate this day most often with the laying of a wreath
or even a dinner open to Service Members, retirees and widows in an effort to make the day

Schweinfurt Ladies Auxiliary hosts 9/11 Remembrance Run

In the spirit of a movement that is spreading across Europe, the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW
in Schweinfurt, Germany hosted their first annual 9/11 Remembrance Run last Saturday. The
distance – 9.11 kilometers – was suggested by CSM Michael Balch of SHAPE when he came to
speak at the Schweinfurt Memorial Day ceremony this past May. Runners of all ages appeared
for the fundraising event hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary which was designed to raise funds
for future Schweinfurt Veterans Day and Memorial Day ceremonies. By all accounts it was
a resounding success with over 120 runners. Other 9/11 Remembrance Runs, organized by
FMWR, were run in Baumholder and Grafenwoehr, Germany

As you can see, we've been chipping away at updating our website. A lot of time and effort has gone into this overhaul as it is our ceaseless ambition and duty to better serve our members and community. Over the coming days we will continue updating infomation as well as expanding some sections of our new site. All New VFW Europe Website Under Construction

VFW Europe have commissioned AR Mitchell Illustration of Anderson, SC (U.S.) to design an all new website for us. The new site will be built with future expansion in mind and on the most up-to-date platform.
