District 3 Frontiersmen celebrate Veterans Day in the Czech Republic

Posted Oct 3, 2010

General Patton – heard of him? Bet you didn’t know that his 3rd Army not only overran Germany during the last months of World War II, but that the 2nd Infantry Division “Indian’s Head” was tasked by the general to push far east into the heart of what is today the Czech Republic. On 8 May 1945, elements of the Indian’s Head Division entered Plzen and Rokycany, Czech and met with their Red Army cohorts from the Soviet Union.

For well over a decade, District III of the Department of Europe Veterans of Foreign Wars has commemorated this event with a Veterans Day celebration in the town of Rokycany. This year’s event will be on 13 November 2010. To learn more about the VFW event contact click HERE or email us at avclasse@web.de.
